  • Hungary Information

    Hungary is located in Central-Europe, it has a population of 10 million and its capital is Budapest, the largest city in Hungary with approx. 2 million people. It is a landlocked country in the Carpathian Basin , bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Its total territory is 93,030 km2 , 0.74% water.

    The country is home to the largest thermal water cave system and the second largest thermal lake in the world � Lake Heviz, the largest lake in Central Europe � Lake Balaton and the largest natural grasslands in Europe, Hortobagy.

    The current Prime Minister is Viktor Orban (elected 2010) and the President is Laszlo Solyom.
    As of 2009, 13 Hungarians (who were born in Hungary) had received a Nobel prize, more than China, India, Australia or Spain. Further eight Nobel prize laureates of Hungarian origin on both sides were born outside of Hungary.

    Hungary is famous for its excellent mathematics education which has trained numerous outstanding scientists.
    Administratively, Hungary is divided into 19 counties. Hungary has 10 national parks, 145 minor nature reserves and 35 landscape protection areas. It has a Continental climate, with hot summers with low overall humidity levels but frequent rainshowers and frigid to cold snowy winters.

    The Hungarian cuisine is a prominent feature of the Hungarian culture, just as much like the art of hospitality. Traditional dishes such as the world famous Goulash (gulyas stew or gulyas soup). Dishes are often flavoured with paprika (ground red peppers), a Hungarian innovation.
    Special Hungarian drinks include Palinka: is a fruit brandy, distilled from fruit grown in the orchards, Wine: Tokaji Aszu and Egri Bikaver (most famous ones).

    Hungary is a land of thermal water. A passion for spa culture and Hungarian history have been connected from the very beginning. Hungarian spas feature Roman, Greek, Turkish, and northern country architectural elements. Approximately 1,500 thermal springs can be found in Hungary.
    Matyo embroidery and Herend porcelain (luxury, hand painted) are famous part of traditional Hungarian culture.
    Budapest currently has 2 Metro lines, the third being constructed and to be completed in a few years.

    One of the largest and most important universities in Hungary is the Szent Istvan University. Students can start their higher education on the Faculty of Applied and Professional Arts of this university and after that they can obtain both a Hungarian and an English degree in their respective fields, the latter being validated by a recognised UK university.

    In Hungary, professional, well-trained university teachers of Hungarian and English nationality are conducting education solely in English language. Excellent educational conditions, student hostel, cultural and sporting facilities await all students.
    With the international degree acquired here students face a promising future ensuring bright prospects.
