The name Belarus derives from the term White Russian, meaning-(White- Rus). Belarus is a Landlocked country in Eastern Europe bordered clockwise by Russa to the northeast, Ukraine to the south,Poland to the west, and Latvia to the northwest. Its capital is Minsk; other major cities include Brest,,Grodno.Gomiel(Homiel), mogilev, and vitebsk. Forty percent of its 207600 km2 is forested, And its strongest economic sectors are Agriculture and Manufacturing.

President of belarus is Alexander Lukashenko.

The term for the president is five years, but due to a 1996 referedum, the election that was supposed to occur in 1999 was pushed back to 2001. Under the 1994 constitution, the president could only serve for two terms as president, but due to a change in the constitution, term limits were eliminated. During the course of the office, three elections were held in 1994, 2001 and 2006. The next election is set to occur in 2011.Alexander Lukashenko has been the only person who has served as president since the elections in 1994 till date.
